Why should a person use antivirus software?

June 20, 2009

The answer is really simple, to protect your computer from malicious damage, and to prevent the computer from being used to pass on infections to other machines without knowledge. A virus can spread much like the human cold or flu, and is often spread through those who are not protected.

Many people are reluctant to shell out the cash for decent antivirus software, there are free antivirus software programs out there, however they are limited to less functionality and you need to be careful which ones you choose. I have come across many supposed free software programs on my customer’s computers, which have caused more damage than repair.

Mostly they produce spyware and adware that runs on your computer causing it to run slowly, generate pop-ups, copy your confidential details like passwords, bank details etc… and in some cases cause your computer to shut down after a set time period.
